It was surprising that my first ripe tomato was cherry type Sungold. Specially since I had started most early varieties such as Siberian and Stupice.
Sweet bell pepper Whitney was very early as well, first and very productive. Definitely will try them next year.
On downside- some of melons got wilted for no apparent reason in baby stage of several weeks.
Cucumbers started from seed May 1 did not start fruiting until beginning of July so next year should be started slightly earlier.

free compost/soil
Doug,
just wanted to thank you for the info. i will definetly check out Mount Trashmore (spell?) in Evanston for the free mulch, and top soil. From the look of your garden the quality of the topsoil is way better than the 99cents bag i bought from Homedepot.
Happy gardening,
Nayereh
p.s please give me more info on your greenhouse!

First Post - Welcome
Many of us are so busy gardening we don't take the time to use the computer, much less BLOG. We are a community and it would be so nice to find ways to communicate, to help each other out. Lots of us have similar problems and can use any help we can get.
My name is Doug Erickson
and we (wify-wife) have plots 49 and 68
Our plots are the raised garden!!!!!!
